If you’re looking for a speaker that doesn’t look like typical technology, Samsung Music Frame could be the one for you.

CES 2024 is almost here, and Samsung has shared its audio lineup for 2024. This includes various sound bars and a wireless speaker called the Music Frame, which can also act as a picture frame. While we don’t have details on prices, release date, or where these will be available, we expected to learn more at CES 2024 or in the following weeks.
Samsung impressed with their soundbars in 2023, but the standout product in this announcement is the Samsung Music Frame. Similar to Samsung’s The Frame TVs, which can show artwork when not in use, the Music Frame aims to discreetly provide music or home theater audio while displaying artwork.
The Music Frame works on its own or can team up with compatible Samsung TVs and soundbars to be the main speaker or a subwoofer. You can even pair two of them for surround sound. Each Music Frame comes with two woofers, and two mid-range drivers. It uses Samsung Space fit tech to adjust the audio to fit the space.
Samsung also introduced its 2024 soundbar collection, with the Samsung HW-Q990D leading the way. It follows the excellent Samsung HW-Q990C, one of the best Dolby Atmos soundbars. The Q990D has 11.1.4 channels like its predecessor, support wireless Dolby Atmos, and now includes 4K 120Hz passthrough for gaming consoles, a feature the Q990C didn’t have. There’s a Party Play mode that balances the sound across the system when playing music for a consistent experience.
Samsung also brought out its line of super-slim soundbars, such as the HW-S800D, designed to match Samsung’s slim TVs. They feature Space Fit Sound Pro to adjust the sound based on the viewing environment.
Samsung Music Frame: Revolutionary or Gimmick?
Samsung’s Frame TVs are liked by people who want their tech to blend with the room’s style. With streaming services like Netflix and Disney Plus bringing Dolby Atmos sound to more homes, home theater is getting more popular. But many don’t want big speakers and messy cables. That’s where the Music Frame comes in.
It gives you a stylish option for audio without being too noticeable. It has various uses and is a WiFi speaker, so you can stream music in better quality than Bluetooth.
If the Music Frame is similar to Samsung’s The Frame TVs, its main job will probably be displaying art. The Frame TVs have a specific purpose but are generally pricier versions of Samsung’s mid-range path, it will prioritize being a picture display and secondarily a speaker.
As for the Samsung HW-Q990D soundbar, it seems like it will continue to deliver excellent performance, as we’ve seen in Samsung’s Top soundbar over the past few years. With the added feature of 4K 120Hz passthrough, addressing a drawback of the Samsung HW-Q990C, the Q990D could become the ultimate home theater soundbar system.
