Table of Contents

IOS 18 might be a really cool update in 2024, with new feature and designs, especially in AI. We loved iOS 17, so the idea of 18 being even better is exciting. We don’t know a lot about it yet, like what exactly it will have. Here’s what we know so far, including a possible release date and which phone it might work on.

Below, we have a list of things we really want iOS Eighteen to have make it awesome.

IOS 18 Features: Predicted Release Date

WWDC23

iOS 18 is expected to come around mid-September 2024, like past versions. It might launch with the new iPhone 16 and Apple Watch 10. Before September, in June at WWDC, Apple will likely reveal some feature of iOS 18. You can even try it early, but these versions may have some problems.

We are not sure which iPhones will with this iOS version 18, but iOS 17 works in iPhone XR and newer. iPhone from 2018, like iPhone XR and XS, might not support iOS 18. You might need an iPhone 11 or a newer model for iOS 18. This is just based on what happened before, it’s not confirmed yet.

IOS 18 Features: Leaks and News

There’s not much info about iOS 18 yet, but one thing we know is that Apple is investing a lot in AI servers and features. The results off these efforts might be ready in late 2024.

Tere’s a rumor about Apple GPT, a ChatGPT rival, being developed internally. It could improve Siri and AppleCare. Apple is also working on an AI chatbot and an image-generating AI. These features might be added to Siri to make it better.

We are also heard that the AI-powered Siri might be revealed at WWDC 2024 when we will see iOS 18. But it might only work with iPhone 16 and newer models, hinting that it could need special hardware.

iOS 18, Apple, iPhone 16

We don’t know exactly how Siri will get better, but one idea is that it might take over the Shortcut app. This means you could ask Siri to do complicated tasks easily, like making GIF from your recent photos and sending it to a friend, just by talking.

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, iOS-18 is seen as a big upgrade inside Apple. They describe it as “ambitious and compelling” with some important new features and designs.

However, Apple paused working on iOS-18 in November to fix issues, which is uncommon. This could mean some planned features are causing problems. It might lead to delays or cancellations of some features, out we’ll have to wait and see.

IOS 18 Features: Expected Compatibility

iOS 18

We don’t know yet which phone will work with iOS 18. But just so you know, iOS 17 works on every iPhone from the iPhone XR and XS and newer. Apple stopped supporting the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X, which all came out in 2017.

So. It’s likely that with iOS-18, Apple might not support iPhone from 2018 like the iPhone XR, iPhone XR, XS, and iPhone XS Max. This means you might need an iPhone 11 or a new model for iOS18. This what usually happens, but we are not sure yet.

iOS 18 Features: What We Hope To HAVE

We want to see a lot things in iOS 18, and here are five improvements we’re looking for.

1. Worldwide important features in iOS 18 to be available for everyone

Voicemail

In iOS 17, a big feature was Live Voicemail, but it’s only in the US and Canada. This means iPhone 15 is not as good outside these countries. It’s not great, and even though Google does this too, Apple can do better.

For iOS 18, we want all feature to be for everyone worldwide. If that’s not possible, we want Apple to be clear about it, not hide it in small print.

2. Compatibility with Android for Check In

Apple often keeps cool features like iMessage and Share-Play just for iPhone and doesn’t let Android phones use them. It’s not great, but we understand why. However, when it comes to safety features like Check In, it’s harder to understand.

In iOS 17, Check in lets you automatically tell your loved ones you’re home safe or, if you didn’t check in, it lets them know you might not be safe, showing them where your phone is.

The problem is that both sender and receiver need to have iOS 17 for it to work. So Android users can’t use the feature, which is okay, but they also can’t get Check in notification from others, which is not so okay.

For iOS 18. We hope Apple allows Android users to get these automated messages and alerts, even if they use the feature themselves.

3. AI Upgrade for Siri

Siri-Feature-

There are talks that Apple will use a lot of AI in iOS 18, and Siri might get a big part of it. We really hope so because newer things like ChatGPT make Siri seem a bit old-fashioned. Especially since ChatGPT Voice is free in iOS now.

If Siri gets better, it might talk more naturally and do more complicated things than just searching in the internet or turning on your smart lights.

4. Place the cursor in the middle of a word with a tap

We really want Apple to learn from Android and let us tap in the middle of a word to move the cursor there for fixing mistakes. Right now, you have to press and hold the space bar, then move your finger, which is slower, we don’t think this will be in iOS-18, but it would be great if it was.

5. Deep but thoughtful AI integration

Apart from Siri, we want Apple to include AI in various parts of iOS 18, but we want it to be done carefully, not with feature that are not well thought out or seem like tricks.

Especially, we’d like to have AI tools for editing photos, similar to Google’s Magic Eraser and Magic Editor tools that allow you to change or delete things in photos. It would also be cool if spatial photos and videos were easier to use, so they’re not just for people who have Apple version Pro.

6. Improved Texting with Android Users

General-Apps-Messages-Apple

Earlier this month, Apple said it would support a messaging standard called RCS in the iPhone’s Message app, stating “later next year.” So, it will probably be a part of iOS 18.

This support for RCS is expected to make the messaging experienced better between iPhone and Android devices, bringing a few improvements.
